Work for fortnight beginning 20th April

Please find tasks for Media Studies for the next fortnight.

Please aim to have these tasks complete by 3rd May.

It is up to you how you wish to organise your time. You could do it all in a couple of days and blitz it or you can spread it out if you prefer to stick to a school day schedule.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Don't forget you have the powerpoint guide to help you with these tasks. I suggest you complete them with the powerpoint open to one side.

Task 1 & 2
Generic Research

Please complete your second and third textual analyses. These should be examples of a product that has a similar aesthetic (look) to the one that you wish to produce.
Look at the examples on the powerpoint guide and re read pages 189-190 of the text book to help you with this.

You can annotate by hand and take a photo and upload it as a photo to your powerpoint (as long as it is legible) or you could create a word document and upload that, or if you are feeling particularly adventurous you could record a video narration (a bit like a directors cut) of you talking about a product. You would need to be able to upload it to your powerpoint so it couldn't be too long as it won't save or send, or you could upload it to youtube (without your face) and embed the link. Word annotations tend to work the best particularly when you colour code your annotations according to 'LIAR' and use lots of media terminology.

Task 3
Audience Research

Reflect on the results of your audience research (lesson 4 of last terms work).
By now you should have your results and have collated it. You need to consider what you have learned from this research. What have you discovered from researching and how will this impact on your creative ideas? Did any of your audience have any good ideas and will you use them?
What do you think the audience appeal will be for your product?

Task 4
Audience research- focus group

Please read page 191
For your focus group you need 4 people that you know and can contact. You could set up a WhatsApp group for them. You will refer to them during your planning and production phases. So you need to chose people who you can contact easily, send them images or links to your ideas and they will reply sensibly and helpfully to.
The focus group at this point is their profiles so you need a picture, age, occupations, hobbies and how they currently engage with your chosen form of media. eg do they read magazines, what are their favourite films etc.

Task 5
The IT Crowd

Please read the section on Sitcoms and the IT Crowd in the text book. Pages 138-152 and watch our set episode Season 4 Episode 2 The Final Countdown https://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-it-crowd/on-demand/48970-002
There will be an online test on this in the next fortnights work.
It will do you no harm to watch other episodes of this very funny series and you could also watch 'Friends'.

work for week beginning 1st June

You have had a break from your NEA- well done those of you who completed the test on Sitcoms on Seneca- very pleasing results. A few of you are still missing that - please ensure that you get it done asap. The link to the test is on the last email. If you have been keeping up with the NEA work you will by now have completed your research and planning. We now need to have a Microsoft Teams lesson on how to go about the Statement of Aims before you go any further. Please read the attached powerpoint before the lesson which is at 11am on Wednesday 3rd June. Please note that the example Statement of Aims refer to last years briefs- dont let this confuse you! Please let me know in advance asap if you can not make this time.
