5 lessons and homework from 23rd March - Easter

You should have 5 lessons and 3 homeworks between now and the Easter holiday so you should be looking to spend around 8 hours on the following tasks.
Remember you have been emailed two powerpoints to support you in this.
'The coursework guide 21' that gives further detail and provides examples and your coursework template 'NEA 21 student copy'.

Remember all tasks that you complete should be added to your powerpoint and emailed to the NEA email- not my email address.

Any specific questions or queries email me directly.
Do not leave all of these tasks until the last minute. Several of them need my approval and feedback before you can progress so stick to your usual timetable and complete them when you would have been having a lesson. I will be online at that time too so can answer any questions in real time.

Lesson 1:
Read over the choice of briefs again. Decide which one you think you would like to create.
Read pages 187-194 of the text book. Remember you were given a digital copy of this at the start of the course.
Next read pages 195-223 only the section that corresponds to your chosen brief.
Task: Write 'ten top tips' regarding what you should consider in your choice and add this to your NEA powerpoint.

h/w think about and discuss with friends and family which brief you think you would be most suited to.

Lesson 2:
Create a 'pitch' and a mood board that describes your idea.
How it will meet the brief and how you will represent your subjects.
This needs to be saved onto your NEA powerpoint and emailed to me ASAP.
Important: You must have your brief approved by me before you go any further.
If you are not sure email me directly first.

h/w email me your pitch and mood board to the NEA email address.

Lesson 3:
Once your pitch has been approved by me you need to create a checklist.
Look at all the criteria the exam board say you have to include.
Create a table where you can add exactly what you are going to do and that you can tick off when you have done it.

You can then begin with one of your three textual analyses.
Look again at pages 189-190 to help you with this.
For print you should annotate in a similar style to the analyses that you are used to from magazines and film posters.
In particular you are looking to identify the following points- it would be helpful to use a different colour when annotating each of these areas.
Media Language
Representation
Audience Appeal

h/w complete one textual analysis and email to me to check before you move on to the next two.

Lesson 4:
Audience Research.
Read again pages 190-191.
Set up a questionnaire of your potential target audience. You could use office 365 and send it to your media class or use any online survey you prefer.

h/w collate your results. If you use Office 365 it will create a pie chart for you that you can simply screen shot and put onto your powerpoint.

Lesson 5:
Secondary research
Depending on which brief you have chosen you could look into the institutional background of your area. For example an advertising pack for magazines, press pack for TV or film. Again, look at the relevant section for 'secondary research' in the text book.
p.198 for TV
p. 207 for magazines
p. 214 for film
p. 219 for music marketing

h/w Add a slide to your powerpoint on what you have discovered about your area and what you intend to use.
Since it is online you could provide screen shots or URL links back to your source material.

Work for fortnight beginning 20th April

Please find tasks for Media Studies for the next fortnight. Please aim to have these tasks complete by 3rd May. It is up to you how you wish to organise your time. You could do it all in a couple of days and blitz it or you can spread it out if you prefer to stick to a school day schedule. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. Don't forget you have the powerpoint guide to help you with these tasks. I suggest you complete them with the powerpoint open to one side. Task 1 & 2 Generic Research Please complete your second and third textual analyses. These should be examples of a product that has a similar aesthetic (look) to the one that you wish to produce. Look at the examples on the powerpoint guide and re read pages 189-190 of the text book to help you with this. You can annotate by hand and take a photo and upload it as a photo to your powerpoint (as long as it is legible) or you could create a word document and upload that, or if you are feeling parti
